MEET OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Sophia Chen

Dr. Sophia Chen is focused on helping people of all ages achieve and maintain beautiful, healthy smiles. Each smile is unique, and she believes in providing patient focused comprehensive care to address each persons’ individual needs. She cares about the people she serves and makes sure you understand our options so that you can make the best decision for a healthy smile. With her years of experience, Dr. Chen prides herself in delivering quality, compassionate care in a comfortable and friendly setting. Having practiced dentistry in Keokuk for the past two years, Dr. Chen is excited to be returning to central Iowa and helping you achieve your best smile.

Training and Education

Dr. Chen graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics in 2018. During her dental school training, she has been very involved with the Dental Public Health Club and received a distinction in Dental Public Health upon graduation. Through the Dental Public Health Club, she organized several community outreach activities for dental students that focused on prevention and community education on oral health. In partnership with the University of Iowa and Rotarians from District 6000 (Iowa) and Xicotepec, she participated in two service trips to Xicotepec, Mexico that focused on providing preventive care and education to school aged children. She was also active in several student-led organizations and continues to be involved in community based dental activities like the Iowa Mission of Mercy. In her senior year, Dr. Chen had the opportunity to provide comprehensive care to patients of all ages during her preceptorships at Broadlawns Dental Clinic and Sioux City Community Health Center.

Dr. Chen is committed to implementing the latest innovations in dentistry into her daily practice and engages in many hours of continuing education each year to provide the best care to her patients. In July 2022, Dr. Chen was awarded a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), a distinction that is held by only 84 dentists in the state of Iowa and only about 6% of general dentists achieve. She is trained in providing a wide variety of dental treatments, but especially enjoys treating children, recreating smiles, and helping patients sleep better through oral sleep appliance therapy. Dr. Chen is currently a member of the American Dental Association, Fort Dodge District Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, Spear Study Club, and is involved in the CEREC mentor group. She currently serves in leadership positions at the Iowa Academy of General Dentistry as well as the Iowa Dental Association.

Compassionate Care

What Dr. Chen likes most about dentistry is interacting with her patients and sharing her passion for dentistry. She enjoys getting to know each of her patients, listening to their individual concerns, and working alongside them to achieve and maintain optimal oral health. She strives to combine her clinical knowledge with her patients’ goals to deliver the best possible care for each patient. While you are in the dental chair, Dr. Chen works with you to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable during dental treatment.

She is an Urbandale native and graduated from Urbandale High School in 2011. Go J-Hawks!

She achieved a BA in biochemistry with honors at the University of Iowa

She is continuing her passion for volunteering at the annual Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM) and providing dental readiness exams and treatment to local bases.

She was active in band, having served as drum major for her high school marching band and participated in university and community bands. She continues to support her alma mater at local high school marching band competitions

She loves to bake and likes to try new recipes

Drawing, paddleboarding, playing tennis/pickleball, and doing Zumba are just some of the things she like to enjoy in her free time.

DR. DANIEL BINKOWSKI

Dr. Daniel Binkowski, also known as “Dr. B” by his patients, is a general dentist with a true passion for dentistry and a very diverse skillset from his unique education and training. He has developed a practice where he is able to provide family dentistry as well as specialized services. A few of these include wisdom teeth removal, implants and in-office deep sedation. His passion for dentistry has created a practice that caters to those wanting the highest level of comfort and care.

Training and Education

Dr. Binkowski graduated from Creighton University School of Dentistry, after receiving an Air Force Health Professions scholarship. He continued his education during his active duty in the Air Force from 2011 to 2015, where he was commissioned as a captain. He spent an extra year learning clinical procedures from several board-certified specialists in the Air Force’s Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at Offutt AFB in Omaha. He was ranked one of the top residents in his class for his clinical ability and treatment planning capabilities, as well as treating multidisciplinary complex dental cases. After, he volunteered for an assignment at a clinic in Eielson AFB in Alaska, where he provided a variety of dental services to the active duty population, such as the removal of fully impacted wisdom teeth, periodontal surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics and IV sedation.

His training did not end after residency, and he has since completed numerous hours of continuing education in the areas of IV sedation anesthesia and hands on surgical courses, as well as more than 200 hours of implant continuing education. While he practices all aspects of dentistry, from fillings to crowns, he is one of the few general dentists in the area who does all his own surgery, including placing and restoring implants, periodontal surgeries, and the removal of partially and fully impacted wisdom teeth. Dr Binkowski is also the owner of Iowa Wisdom Teeth (located in North Liberty and West Des Moines) where he provides affordable, efficient, safe wisdom tooth removal services.
