For Life-Long Dental Health

When you give your dental health regular attention now, you can avoid unnecessary pain and expensive restorative procedures in the future. While ongoing dental hygiene at home is important, it is equally important to receive a regular six-month checkup and cleaning at Story City Dental. Our dentist and hygienists will provide you with tips unique to your dental needs and take the time to ensure you’re on track to excellent long-term dental health.

Why is preventive dentistry important?

By monitoring and tracking your oral health, Story City Dental can diagnose and treat small dental issues before they become large. While your teeth may be in great shape now, changes in your at-home oral hygiene habits and diet can have impacts on your long-term dental health due to cavities or inflammation in the gum tissue around your teeth. A dental problem you may not be aware of can be spotted early — and fixed before it leads to bigger problems.

How often should I see the dentist?

For dental cleanings and exams, the American Dental Association advises seeing a dentist every six months. At bi-annual appointments, our dental hygienist will remove plaque and stains regular brushing misses or cannot remove, and your dentist will check for signs of tooth decay as well as any changes in the tissues in your mouth (oral cancer screening) and advise you on any other dental issues you may be experiencing.

What can I expect at my appointment?

As a new patient, you will receive a full set of X-rays, including a panoramic X-ray, comprehensive dental exam looking at your teeth and the tissues supporting them, and an oral cancer screening. Lastly we provide a 3D digital intraoral scan that takes about 2-3 minutes, which will give you a 3D image of what we are seeing. Dr. Binkowski will discuss the current state of your oral health and lay out a plan for fixing areas that need attention now or areas that may require work in the future. Our hygienists can also clean your teeth at your first visit, using silent cordless handpieces for your extra comfort and ease. New patient exams with a cleaning typically takes 60 to 90 minutes, while following periodic exam and cleaning appointments typically last 60 minutes or less.
